Does an official Tally Prime mobile app exist
Short answer: no. Tally Solutions, the company behind Tally Prime, does not publish a native Android or iOS client. Tally Prime is a Windows desktop product, and the data folder sits on a single machine with a multi-user or single-user licence. That architecture goes back to the late 1990s and Tally has not signalled a native mobile build.
The closest official capability is Tally Remote — a browser-based access layer over Tally.NET, intended primarily for Chartered Accountants and auditors who need temporary visibility into a client's books. The interface on a phone browser is the full desktop interface rendered smaller. It is slow, the fields are tiny, and no serious distributor uses it as a daily operational tool.
So when an Indian distributor searches "Tally Prime mobile app," they are almost always looking for a companion app that syncs with their Tally Prime installation and provides a phone-native experience.
What "Tally Prime mobile app" actually means in the Indian market
The companion-app market grew up around two facts. First, Tally has 1.5 million-plus Indian business users and 28,000-plus certified partners. Second, distributors live on their phones; an owner on a morning drive wants to check yesterday's sales, and a salesman at a retailer's shop wants to create an invoice without calling the accountant.
Companion apps bridge these by reading from (and in better cases, writing to) the Tally data file over the Tally XML gateway. Your Windows Tally machine stays where it is; the phone app talks to it through a small sync service. The user experience feels native because the app is native — built for Android and iOS — but the data still lives in your Tally file.
The three shapes of companion apps
Shape 1: View-only companion apps. Biz Analyst is the category leader here, with over a million downloads. You see outstanding, stock, ledger, day book, and party statements on your phone. You cannot create a voucher or collect a payment. Pricing: ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 per user per year.
Shape 2: View + voucher apps. Livekeeping and a handful of smaller Tally-partner-built apps. In addition to viewing, you can create a sales voucher on the phone and post it back to Tally. Useful when a salesman confirms an order at a retailer's shop. Pricing: ₹3,500 to ₹5,000 per user per year.
Shape 3: Full-stack distributor platforms. These add UPI payment links on every invoice, WhatsApp invoice and reminder dispatch, UTR auto-reconciliation back into Tally, and e-invoice and e-way bill generation from the phone. Takkada sits in this category. Pricing: ₹6,000 to ₹7,500 per user per year on the collections-and-up tiers.
What a distributor should expect one to do
A real Tally Prime mobile app for a mid-sized distributor has to carry the entire daily operational loop. Not just one piece of it.
| Capability | View-only | View + voucher | Full-stack |
|---|---|---|---|
| View outstanding, stock, ledger | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Create sales voucher on phone | No | Yes | Yes |
| Generate IRN (e-invoice) from phone | No | Partial | Yes |
| Generate e-way bill from phone | No | Partial | Yes |
| UPI payment link on every invoice | No | No | Yes |
| Auto-reconcile UTR into Tally | No | No | Yes |
| WhatsApp reminder cadence | No | Basic | Yes, age-based |
| Role-based access for salesmen | Yes (view) | Yes | Yes, granular |
A ₹12 crore FMCG distributor in Barpeta we know started on a view-only app and stayed there for three years. The moment they crossed 40 B2B invoices a day and ₹47 lakh in outstanding across 120 parties, view-only stopped being enough. The phone had to write back to Tally, not just read from it.
How to evaluate one before buying
Four questions that separate a serious Tally Prime mobile app from a feature list on a landing page.
What Tally versions does it support? Tally Prime (all releases) plus late-stage Tally.ERP 9 is the minimum. Pre-6.0 Tally.ERP 9 lacks the API capabilities modern apps depend on.
Does it write back to Tally? Ask for a live demo where the salesman creates an invoice on the phone and you see the voucher appear in Tally. Not a slide. The real posting.
How does UTR matching actually work? Send ₹1,00,000 against three real pending invoices of ₹35,000, ₹42,000 and ₹23,000. Does the app split the receipt correctly across all three, or dump it on the oldest?
What happens when the office PC is off? Cached data should stay viewable on the phone. Any writes — new invoice, new receipt — should queue and post when the PC reconnects.
If the vendor cannot demonstrate these four things cleanly with your own Tally data, the product is not yet where a distributor scale needs it.
What Takkada is, in one sentence
Takkada is a mobile-first B2B SaaS platform that sits on top of Tally Prime and helps Indian distributors create invoices, send WhatsApp reminders, collect UPI payments, generate e-invoices and e-way bills from the phone, and auto-reconcile everything back into Tally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the official Tally mobile app free?
A: Tally Solutions does not publish a consumer mobile app. The official Tally Remote feature is included with Tally Prime licensing but is a browser-based tool, not a phone-native app. Companion apps that distributors actually use start at about ₹2,000 per user per year.
Q: Does a Tally Prime mobile app replace my desktop Tally?
A: No. Every Tally Prime mobile app is a companion layer. Your Tally data file stays on the Windows machine in the office, and the mobile app syncs a working slice of it to the phone. If the Windows machine is removed, the mobile app has nothing to sync with.
Q: Can I create GST invoices on a Tally Prime mobile app?
A: Full-stack apps let you create compliant sales vouchers including HSN, tax heads and buyer GSTIN on the phone. The voucher posts to Tally, and for B2B invoices above the ₹5 crore turnover threshold, the IRN is generated and written back to the voucher automatically.
Q: What about Tally ERP 9, not Tally Prime?
A: Most companion apps support late-stage Tally.ERP 9 (6.0 and above). Tally Solutions ended standard support for ERP 9 in 2022, and almost every distributor we see is either already on Prime or planning to move.
Q: Does Tally Prime have a cloud version?
A: Not a native one from Tally Solutions. Some distributors run Tally Prime on a cloud-hosted Windows desktop via providers like NetForChoice or Tally on AWS/Azure. The mobile app layer still works the same way — a companion app syncs with that hosted Tally instance.
