Batch-wise MRP for FMCG distributors matters most in the weeks after a company revises prices, when the same item sits in your godown at two printed MRPs. With Takkada's Price by batch setting, the Batch box on a sales-invoice line lists each batch of the item with its own MRP, stock left, Mfg and Exp, straight from your Tally books. The clerk sees that one batch carries ₹20 and the other carries ₹22 before he bills, picks the one going out, and the line takes that batch's rate. If the retailer takes both, the second batch lands on its own line at its own rate, so the bill shows exactly how many old-MRP and new-MRP packs left. The rate starts at the batch MRP when Tally has one, then the last rate that batch sold at, then the rate already on the line, and you can type over it. The PDF prints each batch under the item.
The week after a revision
You distribute personal-care and food brands to 300 retailers on six beats, with 7 to 15 days of credit. The company announces a revision: a ₹20 soap goes to ₹22. The new stock arrives with the new MRP printed, but you still hold 80 cartons at the old one.
Your retailers watch the printed MRP closely, because that is what their customer pays. A kirana owner who receives ₹22 packs billed against his old ₹20 assumption calls you the same evening. A bill that says one rate for two kinds of packs makes the next three weeks of phone calls longer.
Two MRPs, two lines
When the purchase of each lot was entered batch-wise in Tally with its MRP, the batch list on the phone shows both lots on one screen:
- A2608, 80 left, with
MRP ₹20 · Mfg 02-Aug-2026under it - A2610, 140 left, with
MRP ₹22 · Mfg 03-Oct-2026under it
Pick the old lot and the line takes its rate. If the order is 10 cartons and only 6 old remain, pick the new lot as well: the app adds a second line for the same item, quantity 1, at the new lot's rate, and you set its quantity. The retailer's bill now reads in two lines what actually reached his shelf.
Where the rate comes from
The batch MRP goes in first. In an Incl. GST bill it is used as it is. In an Excl. GST bill the app takes the GST out, rounded to two decimals. Most FMCG distributors bill retailers below MRP, so for them the MRP on the row is mainly a label that tells old stock from new, and they type the trade rate over it. If your batches carry no MRP in Tally, the line opens at the last rate you sold that batch at, and after that at the rate already on the line.
On the PDF and in Tally
The retailer's PDF prints the batch under each item, with Mfg and Exp when known. The bill reaches Tally as a sales voucher with one line per batch, each with its own rate, so your batch-wise stock of old and new MRP moves batch by batch as billed.
Things to know
Price by batch is a sales-invoice setting. Sales orders taken on the beat do not take the batch picker, so the batch is picked on the invoice. Batches come from Tally; the app does not create them. The list is in batch-name order with expired lots at the bottom, so name lots in a way your clerk can read at a glance.
The full set of rules is in the batch-wise billing guide. Distributors who also carry medicines can see the Tally app for pharma distributors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can one bill carry both the old and the new MRP of the same item?
A: Yes. Each batch goes on its own line with its own rate.
Q: Where does the app get the batch MRP?
A: From the MRP on the batch in your Tally purchase entry. A blank MRP counts as none.
Q: Do I have to bill at MRP?
A: No. The MRP fills the rate first, and you can type your trade rate over it.
Q: Does the batch list sort by expiry?
A: It follows batch name, with expired batches moved to the bottom.
