Batch and expiry billing for agri-input dealers means the bill names the lot of pesticide or seed that went to the farmer or retailer, with its Mfg and expiry dates, and Takkada's Price by batch setting does this from the phone. On a sales-invoice line, the Batch box lists each lot of that product with stock left in the godown, its MRP, Mfg and Exp as your Tally books hold them. Lots past their expiry date drop to the bottom with a red Expired label, which matters when last season's cartons sit behind this season's. Pick the lot and the line takes its rate: the lot's MRP first, then the last rate that lot sold at, then the rate already on the line, and you can type over it. A second lot goes on its own line. The PDF prints the lot under the item with Mfg and Exp, and Tally receives the batch on each line, with its dates when known.
The season rush
You are an agri-input dealer with 300 farmers and 40 village retailers on your books. Credit runs till harvest, so a June bill gets paid in October or November. For six weeks of kharif sowing, the counter does not stop: insecticide, herbicide, hybrid seed, micronutrients, urea and DAP.
Pesticide cartons carry a batch number, a manufacturing date and an expiry date printed by the company. Seed packets carry their own lot. When a crop fails, the first question from the farmer, the company rep or the agriculture officer is which lot it was. If your bill does not say, you have nothing to show.
What the lot list shows
With Price by batch on, tap the Batch box on a sales-invoice line. For a pesticide with three lots in the godown you might see:

The clerk picks the lot going into the bag. The expired lot stays visible so it can be pulled aside and dealt with, and it can still be picked if you choose to. The list follows lot name with expired stock last.
The rate on the line
The lot MRP fills the rate first. In an Incl. GST bill it goes in as it is; in an Excl. GST bill the GST is taken out. Dealers who sell to retailers below MRP type their rate, and the line keeps it. If your Tally lots carry no MRP, the line opens at the last rate you sold that lot at, then at the rate already on the line. Fertiliser bags that are not batch-wise in Tally bill exactly as they do today.
On the bill and in Tally
The PDF prints a line under the product such as L2503 · Mfg 15-Mar-2026 · Exp 14-Mar-2028. Tally gets the same lot on the sales voucher line, with Mfg and expiry when known, so the lot balance in your godown moves with the bill. When a farmer comes back in October with a complaint, the lot is on his copy and in your books.
What stays in Tally
Lots are created when you enter the purchase in Tally with batch details. The app reads them and does not create them. Price by batch applies to sales invoices; credit notes for season-end returns do not take the lot picker today.
