A ladder discount for electrical wholesalers carries a brand's discount slabs onto the bill exactly as quoted, for example 30% off list, a further 5% for the slab and 2% for cash, while Tally records the one percentage those three compound to. In Takkada, you type the three steps on a sales invoice or sales order line from the phone. The app applies them one after the other and rounds the total to two decimals: 34.83%. Fifty MCBs at ₹480 list before GST make ₹24,000, and after the three steps the taxable value is ₹15,640.80. The line reads "30% + 5% + 2% · total 34.83%". The PDF prints Disc. for the first step, a column for each of your two named steps, and Total Disc. Tally gets 34.83 in the item line's discount field, next to the list rate. The electrician sees his slab, and your Tally voucher carries the amount on his bill.
An electrical wholesaler's week
You stock three or four switchgear brands, two wire brands and a fan or lighting line, and you supply 150 to 250 retailers, electricians and panel builders on 30 to 45 days of credit. Every brand publishes a list price and a discount structure in slabs: the base trade discount, an extra percentage once the buyer crosses a quantity or a quarterly target, and a cash discount at the end.
Your counter staff know the slabs. Tally wants one number per line. Somewhere between the two, a person compounds 30, 5 and 2 on a calculator, sometimes adds them to 37 by mistake, and the bill goes out ₹520.80 short on this one line.
Three steps, named once
The owner names the second and third steps in Settings, Invoices, Discount step names, up to 16 characters each. A wholesaler might use "Slab" and "Cash". The first step is the line's usual Discount %, which most counters use for the brand's base discount.
At billing, add the item, tap its discount, and type 30, 5 and 2. The Item Discount sheet shows the price after each step, 480.00 → 336.00 → 319.20 → 312.82, total 34.83%. The counter can read the net price back to the electrician before saving.
The ₹24,000 line
Fifty MCBs at a list price of ₹480, rate before GST, 18% GST.

Adding the slabs to 37% would have taken ₹8,880 off, ₹520.80 more than the brand's structure allows.
Different brands on one bill
Each line carries its own steps. On a bill with MCBs at 30 + 5 + 2, wire at 25 + 3 and a fan at a flat 12%, every line shows its own steps and total. On the PDF, the Slab and Cash columns print because some line uses them; the fan line leaves them blank and shows 12% under Disc.
A panel builder's order booked as a sales order keeps its steps, and the invoice made from it carries them across. A returned box goes back on a credit note with a plain discount per line.
Keeping the base discount fixed
If brand base discounts are not negotiable at your counter, the owner can set each item's first discount under Settings, Invoices, First discount by item, and switch on "Lock rate and first discount for staff". For non-owner logins on sales invoices, orders and quotations, the rate and Discount % then show read-only, the item's first discount fills new lines, and staff can change only the named steps. The server also refuses a new staff line whose first discount differs from yours.
What reaches Tally
The invoice syncs as a sales voucher with your list rate and 34.83 in the item line's discount field. The slab names stay in Takkada and on the PDF. The rounding rule is in how the ladder discount works on a Tally invoice, and the module is at ladder discount in Tally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can each brand carry a different ladder on the same bill?
A: Yes. Steps are typed per line, so each item carries its own brand's slabs.
Q: What if the electrician has not reached the extra slab yet?
A: Leave that step blank on his lines. A blank step is skipped and the total is worked from the steps you typed.
Q: Can staff change the brand's base discount?
A: By default, yes. With the staff lock on and a first discount set for the item, staff cannot change the rate or the first step.
