Daybook is the voucher list for a window you choose: who was billed, who was paid, what journal hit the books. For a Guwahati FMCG distributor it is the check against a salesman who claims twelve invoices, an accountant who said the receipt posted, and a brother who heard a credit note went out. On the phone it is that same list, from the Tally books synced to the device.
It answers one midday question well: which vouchers posted in the window I picked. It does not age Sharma Kirana's ₹1,85,000. That is Bills Receivable. It does not total the year. That is the This Financial Year band. It does not replace the daily sales report, which is the day's selling as a number. Daybook is the vouchers behind a number somebody quoted from memory.

Most action reports have no date filter. Ageing is always as of today. Daybook is the exception you actually use at 12:10. The presets are Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days and Custom. Today is the salesman's claim. Yesterday is the "kal ka bill nahi dikha" argument. Last 7 days is the week you were on the road. Custom is the window the CA named.
Ledger statement and godown reports have a different preset list: This FY, This Quarter, This Month, Last Month, Last FY, Custom. Do not expect those on Daybook. Do not expect a date picker on Outstanding. The date chip on Daybook is why this report exists on the phone as its own row.
Party search on every report is a search box. You type a name. Sharma on Daybook, with Today set, is Sharma Kirana's vouchers that posted today, if any did. Access to the Reports tab is permission-controlled per team member. A salesman without that permission does not see Daybook, which is sometimes the point.
The voucher-type chip
The chip is how seven sales vouchers show up instead of a mixed scroll of receipts, journals and contras. Set Today, then chip Sales, and the list is sales vouchers only. Chip Receipts when the argument is whether Sharma's payment posted. Chip Credit Note when a return is supposed to have gone in before the next invoice.
Without the chip, Daybook is every voucher in the window, which is useful at 9 PM when you want the whole day. With the chip, it is the one type the salesman named. The owner at Fancy Bazaar chips Sales, counts seven, and calls before the van leaves with a story that twelve are done.
Chip Payments at 4 PM before you tell a supplier the cheque is out. If the payment voucher is not on the list, the cheque is still a cheque, and Tally does not know. The chip does not invent vouchers. It hides the types you did not pick.

12:10, Fancy Bazaar, mustard oil still on the counter. The WhatsApp is confident. Daybook, Today, Sales. Seven vouchers. Three parties he expected are missing. The call happens while the van is still in the lane. The missing five are still in the notebook, which means they are also still not in Tally, which means they are also still not in Outstanding.
Das Medical on GS Road was one of the twelve, on the salesman's telling. Daybook has no Das Medical sales voucher today. The owner calls: "Das ka bill Tally mein nahi hai." The salesman is still in the lane. The bill gets entered before the next stop, or it does not get entered until 9 PM, which is how Outstanding stays wrong overnight.
That is the daily job. The daily sales report from Tally may already show a rupee total somebody quoted. Daybook is how you see whether that total is twelve bills or seven. If the year-to-date sales figure on the This Financial Year band looks short, Daybook for the last few days is the first place to look for vouchers that never posted.

Share Daybook as a PDF or as a CSV file. The CSV is a file the accountant can open. Trial Balance, Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet offer a PDF and Excel chooser. Daybook offers PDF or CSV. Ask for one of those two.
Every exported PDF goes through the phone's share sheet, where you pick WhatsApp, or email, or Drive. The CSV rides the same share sheet. At 12:25 the owner sends the Today Sales PDF to himself so the evening argument has a file, not a memory of seven versus twelve.
The accountant who wants a sheet for the 12th-to-18th window gets Custom, then CSV, then Drive. That file is still a CSV. The Trial Balance Excel chooser is a different report.
A party's ledger statement is a different path, from the party page, with ledger statement on WhatsApp as the feature page for that send. Sharma's "bhai, statement bhej do" is that path, not a Daybook CSV from lunch today.
Daybook next to daily sales and This Financial Year
Daily sales is today's selling as a number. Daybook is the voucher list that should add up to a number like that. This Financial Year is ten register totals for the year, each tappable into its register. Open Daybook when the question is "did this voucher post." Open the FY band when the question is "where does the year stand." Open daily sales when the question is "how much did we bill today."
The phone reading of Tally reports on mobile is those books through the day. Daybook is the midday member of that set.
What Daybook will not tell you
Daybook will not age Sharma's ₹1,85,000. It will not tell you whether August made money. It will not total the year. Those are Bills Receivable, Profit & Loss, and the This Financial Year band. Using Daybook as a P&L is how 9 PM becomes a second argument.
It also will not show vouchers that have not posted. The salesman's notebook is still the notebook until someone enters the bill in Tally and the phone syncs. Seven sales vouchers at 12:10 means seven, even if twelve customers took delivery. The honest midday sentence to the salesman is "saat Tally mein hain, paanch pending." That sentence only exists if you opened Daybook.
Custom range is the CA's "12th se 18th tak kya hua." Last 7 days is the week you were in Dibrugarh. Yesterday is the "kal ka receipt nahi dikha" thread at 8:45. Today is the default at lunch. The presets are there because most other action reports will not give you a window. Do not wait for a date chip on Outstanding. It will not arrive.
A receipt that posted as a journal will not show under the Receipts chip. Chip Journal, or clear the chip and read the whole day. The chip is a filter on voucher type, not a second set of books. If the rupee landed and the chip is blank, change the chip before you accuse the accountant.
